Very interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
do samoan only tattoo Pe`a s or u do smaller tattoos in other parts of the body? id b interested in getting a original samon tattoo but would i as a palangi have any chances to get 1? is there a way for a foreigner to b recognized as worth as having someone tattoing him? please let me know thx.
it all depends weather or not you have earned your right to do so… you have to find a sponsor/ a family to take you in as their own…. and learn the true meaning of samoan culture history and the identity of yourself.
it wouldnt b too difficult for u to get a samoan designed tattoo on your arm or where ever
but if u want a real pe’a thatll b hard lol like its even hard for a full blooded samoan to get 1
plus i heard when my cuzin got her malu it coast 600 and the pe’a will cost 2000… thats what she told me
yes u can get a samoan tattoo..as long as u can endure the pain u deserve to get it..palagis have come to samoa to get the traditional samoan tattoo..but most end up not finishing it because their body cannot handle the pain and the massive blood loss..please know that there are preparations to getting a tatau..and that is not eating sweets or unhealthy for about a month before u get it..anyways, there are smaller tattoos, like sleeves, or taulima or tauvae..which are bands around the wrists or
man das bull..they shud not have charged..u suppose to get it from whoever in ur family dat will do it fro free…
i mean i thot dat was the price for petelo suluape???
mayb im wrong… but idk about dat gettin it for free part. dem tattooists gota eat too
dats why u go to samoa to get ur pe’a…Petelo charges that in the states because he flys all da way from samoa..and he goes all over where samons live (NZ, AUS, and US…)
aww yea dats wat u mean
but i heard ppl that get theirs in samoa always get infected

There is a tufuga in Sydney, his name is Sua Suluape Petelo. Please dont get confused with the one in Samoa cos there is two of them & they r brothers, his nephew though (Pita Suluape) did my tatau in April of this year. I hope this has helped you out & all the best in your journey
DATS DA SAD THING bOUT IT. LIKE HOMEbOY SAID IT’S A SAMOAN WAY OF SHOWIN HIS IDENATY
Right, I’ve heard of individuals of a different nationality getting the pe’a. You’re not suppose to get it solely based on whether you can take it or not, obviously. It’s suppose to mean something. In my eyes, just because you’re Samoan shouldn’t be enough reason. It just depends.
sekia lou tattoo le gams awa le tope fai le tattoo
so nice the tattoo le man no rush on doing the tattoo.
The term “tattoo” or from Tahiti, “Tatau” is first referenced by Joseph Banks, the naturalist aboard Cook’s ship the “Endeavour” in 1769 where he mentions it in his journal. To paraphrase. he states, “I shall now mention the way they mark themselves indelibly, each of them is so marked by their humor or disposition”.
The repetitive ta-ta tells that you with your hands beat several (two) times, to get the colour u into the skin.
Thus: Tatau.
Other sources tells us that it may be more complicated. In Samoan the word tatau means “must, necessary, appropriate” – because it is necessary to get a tattoo in life.
In Samoan it may also mean Anchor. Maybe because it is necessary for a human being to be anchored to one’s body. An anchor is the part of a pe’a called that is above the hips.
It is also called tatau on Tonga, and there it means a picture.
hello and talofa lava!!!Samoa is a heart of Polynesian ans Treasure Island,”tatau”was decended from oldest Samoan as a gift and profitable for modern generation,as a written source of oral book to record a samoan core element of Culture and traditional way of life real samoan gentle,
hey im currently doing a fashion course and looking into corporating polynesian tatoo designs into my garments to look like tattoos im looking at differents design but want to create my own is there anything should known about what not to do etc like with the designs and shape i use?
@Sh4Nn0Nl Don’t think that theres nothing wrong with cultural borrowing. As long as you don’t use the designs in false representation of our culture, or misuse it then there should be no problem. The motifs used actually symbolise certain things ..etc, but you can look that up yourself lol
Thanks .Very interesting.Love to get one myself one day
Love the culture Ima ask to get in Samoa Ima be married to one of your beautiful women and were visiting after we re married
@trickDeze trudat i meen i used to get really mad wen i used to see other races with da samoan things but then i realized aint nuthin wrong wit it juss as long as they kno and tell people its a samoan thing and not their own races or as u put it “false representation of our culture”
@hamoguy123 and @trickdeze, Hey guys, I am freelancing for a t shirt company and I am looking to incorporate some samoan design patterns in a shirt. I am planning on using patterns that I specifically know the meaning of, but my question is, is there a spefici order in which I am supposed to put the patterns in, or is that compltely up to my discretion?
